BMS System

A BMS or building management system enables the automation and centralized control of buildings to make them truly “intelligent buildings”.

Building Management Systems (BMS), or building management systems, are increasingly used in all types of public and private real estate. Their function is to improve management and control, moving towards the “intelligent building” concept.

How does a BMS system works?

These systems have gained popularity in both public buildings (hospitals, universities, airports, etc.) and private buildings (offices, factories, hotels, infrastructure, etc.). Also known as building automation systems, BMS are computerized systems that control and automate the mechanical, electrical and technological elements of buildings, such as air conditioning, lighting, public address systems, supplies, elevators, surveillance and fire systems, etc.Basically, a BMS system consists of two elements: Hardware: sensors, management centers, control consoles, etc.

Software: software using protocols such as C-Bus, Dali, Modbus, etc.

What are the advantages of a BMS system?

Whichever solution is chosen, a BMS system offers several advantages:

  • It allows centralized control and supervision of all the elements of the building.
  • It facilitates the rapid detection of incidents for preventive maintenance.
  • The automation of monitoring tasks increases staff productivity.
  • Provides detailed consumption information that promotes energy efficiency.
  • Improved management increases the comfort and safety of building users.

Apart from that, the most interesting thing about a BMS system is that it paves the way towards so-called “intelligent buildings”. The combination of BMS solutions with new technologies such as Big Data, machine learning or artificial intelligence allows a building not only to be easier to maintain, but also to manage itself according to the parameters defined by its managers, and alerting them only when there is an incident or an important decision has to be made about the management of the building.
